In August and September, the winning students from Slovenia and Croatia did an one-month practice in Austria. The architects worked in the architectural office Gangoly and Kristiner Architekten, where they have been working on a designing the CLT construction for a private costumer and an apartment building project with the micro-apartments. Meanwhile the two civil engineers were doing the practice at the Institute of Timber Engineering and Wood Technology at TU Graz under the supervision of the professor Gerhard Schickhofer.
During their practice, we also organised an excursion for them. They got opportunity to visit the sawmill plant and a production of the CLT elements by the company Mayr Melnhof Holz in Leoben and Gaishorn am See. Under the professional guidance of a company’s representative they improve their knowledge in understanding the wood processing and in production of the cross laminated timber. The excursion attended also prof. Gerhard Schickhofer.
The students are all agreeing that the workshop and a practice helped them tremendously in better understanding the timber constructions and to experience the interdisciplinary work with the other professions.
